Episode 16: Metal FFF and performance polymers

Matt Griffin sits with Roger Sijlbing and Tobias Rödlmeier of BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH to discuss the company’s role in additive manufacturing, which includes metal FFF and “performance products” such as customized thermoplastic filaments.

Roger is BASF’s Head of Sales Additive Extrusion Solutions. He joined BASF with the acquisition of Innofil3D in the Netherlands to expand BASF's role in additive manufacturing.

Tobias, meanwhile, serves as Business Development Manager for the Ecosystem for Ultrafuse Metal Filaments for BASF 3D Printing Solutions, focused on the company’s metal FFF strategy – including Ultrafuse 316L, which leverages BASF’s expertise in Metal Injection Molding technology to enable the production of stainless-steel metal parts on FFF extrusion-based machines.

BASF, the world's largest chemical producer, is a German multinational chemical company employing more than 117,000 people across 80 countries and nearly 400 sites. It provides chemicals for the pharmaceutical, construction, textile, and automotive industries, and has played a key role in plastics, including engineering plastics and foams.

BASF entered the additive manufacturing industry in 2011. The technology has since become a key priority for business development, leading to the creation of BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH – a wholly owned subsidiary "tech startup" that leans on decades of experience in performance polymers and solutions, providing key advantages as a provider of 3D printing materials.
